We are women

What we do

Since 2006, AKTEA has been acting at European and national level to gain recognition for the role of women in fisheries and aquaculture and to achieve gender equality in these sectors. AKTEA’s other priorities include gaining  access for women to  decision-making processes within fisheries management at EU level (Advisory Councils) and within national fishers’ organisations, access to vocational training,  and of course the defence of small scale fisheries and fishing communities in general.

AKTEA wants  to make the role of women in fisheries  visible and recognized; employment statistics in the fisheries to reflect gender; women to have access to decision-making on fisheries management and coastal development; enhanced visibility of coastal and inland fishing communities and women’s contributions to these communities; and a greater exchange of experiences and sharing of knowledge.
